Operation Christmas Child at Chick-fil-A

Is there something we can do to make the world a better place? The answer is yes, and we can’t think of a better way right now than to encourage you to pick up an Operation Christmas Child shoebox at the New Bern Chick-fil-A and fill it with items that will be shipped to needy children all over the world. It’s simple. Each shoe box contains a brochure explaining the items that should and should not be packed in your box. You are able to choose if you want your box to go to a boy or girl, as well as the age group.

This is a great opportunity for you to teach your children the importance of giving to those who are less fortunate. We’ve been told that the kids who receive the Operation Christmas Child boxes love to get personal letters from other children. They also enjoy receiving a box that is decorated with stickers or drawings. On Tuesday November 2, 2010 the Chick-fil-A Kid’s Night activity (4-8pm) is “Decorating Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes”. The kids will have an opportunity to decorate a box to take home to fill and bring back to Chick-fil-A, or they can leave their individually decorated box at Chick-fil-A for another person to take home and fill.

Collection Night will be held on Monday November 8, 2010 from 4-8pm at Chick-fil-A. There will be Operation Christmas Child representatives on hand to receive the boxes and answer any questions that you might have. This gives you nearly two weeks to help make the world a better place. Start by picking up your box at Chick-fil-A today!

Do You Know Truett?

It seems fitting to dedicate our first “real” blog to Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A. If you don’t know Truett Cathy, you are missing out on knowing one of the greatest men in history, a man still building a legacy that will be remembered long past our time on this earth. Truett is the inventor of the chicken sandwich, the founder of Chick-fil-A and the author of four successful books: “How Did You Do It, Truett?”, “Eat Mor Chikin, Inspire More People”, “It’s Better to Build Boys than Mend Men”,  and “The Generosity Factor” (with Ken Blanchard).

Out of all of Cathy’s achievements, there is one that stands out greater than any of the others: he is a humble man with a servant spirit. If you read the verse at the foot of his website (TruettCathy.com), you will find exactly where Truett stands: “A good name is better to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver or gold” (Proverbs 22:1). One of Truett’s passions in life has been to work with young boys, and in his many years of transforming the lives of kids in the Atlanta area and beyond, he has given to them much more than just the money he’s made. He’s given them his time and his love. Truett Cathy gives this same encouragement to the more than 60,000 Chick-fil-A employees across the country.

In September 2010, four employees from Chick-fil-A of New Bern took a trip to the Chick-fil-A Corporate Office in Atlanta, GA and were invited into Truett’s office to spend time with him. Upon their arrival, he handed each a ruler inscribed with the quote: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” and praised them for their work with Chick-fil-A. He joked with the young men about paddling them with the ruler, like teachers would when he was growing up. Along with his humor comes his humility. Truett didn’t talk about himself, the legacy that he will leave behind, or the financial rewards of his career. He simply reminded them that it is better to give than receive and that he expects great things out of each of them, even in the quaint town of New Bern, NC.

We encourage you to get to know Truett Cathy. Check out his website and read his books. Truett truly will inspire you to become a better individual.
